Allergic to soya beans or eggs? Then beware the anaesthetic, Propofol! As allergies to certain foods - such as soybeans and eggs - contraindicate the use of Propofol - a short-acting hypnotic medication used by many anaesthetists - it is essential that hospital staff obtain an accurate history of every patient's allergies - to food as well as medication - before surgical procedures.
